Dane County, in partnership with Lake Waubesa Conservation Association, Village of McFarland, and the Town of Dunn, pick up aquatic trash and debris from the end of residents' piers during the summer lake season. Aquatic plants must be placed at the end of your pier by Monday at 7:00 a.m. on the designated pick-up week.
Why remove plants from the lake? Did you know your efforts to remove floating aquatic plants along your shoreline helps improve water quality? 1,000 pounds of wet aquatic plant biomass = 1–4 pounds of phosphorus removed.
This service allows lake property owners to place lake vegetation at the end of their pier for collection. The pick-up crew will collect only aquatic vegetation and other debris that have washed up on shore or that comes out of the lake. The crew will not pick up yard waste, brush or household waste. Any brush, limbs, grass clippings or other material that does not come out of the lake will not be collected. This type of material interferes with and can damage conveyors used for offloading. If any of this material is found, it will not be collected and all of the material will be left on your pier with a placard explaining why.
