About Us

Lake Waubesa Conservation Association (LWCA) seeks to preserve and enhance land, air and water resources around Lake Waubesa. We are a non-profit organization.

Our Origins

Concerned individuals established the Lake Waubesa Conservation Association in November 1989 in response to the proposed construction of a landfill site (Libby Landfill) on the shores of Lake Waubesa. LWCA became highly involved in raising public awareness and substantial funds to offset high legal costs of the ‘Libby’ court cases. Finally, in 1994 the State of Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling, blocking the landfill. The association is credited with being extremely instrumental in this landmark, environmental, legal victory.
